Whether you live in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth or another part of Australia, finding an ideal driving school can be a difficult task.

When you're in the market for a driving school, there are some crucial points you must consider before deciding on a driving instructor.

The most important criteria of any driving school you're interested in is that they should be qualified and licensed to instructor within your state. Anybody can claim to offer driving lessons but a certified instructor will be up to date all all current and existing rules that govern driving. Everyone can drive, but not everyone can teach. You don't want your children to pick up bad habits, so qualifications are a must.

Get on the phone and begin dialing a few driving schools. It's always important to ask questions, so enquire about their experiences, how long they've been in the industry and any other questions you feel are important. Try to find out what their personality is like and whether it's the type of person you feel your young teenager would be comfortable undertaking driving lessons with.

Once you've found a driving school you feel comfortable with, book a lesson. If possible, book the driving lessons at different hours of the day or night. Any driving school worth their salt will be happy to provide you with these options because they understand how important it is for novice drivers to get a feel for driving in varying weather conditions at all hours of the day. It's important this is done in a safe and controlled environment which a driving school can provide.

It can be hard to schedule a lesson around this, so ask a trusted friend or family member when the opportunity arises. It's better to gain this experience in the presence of a mentor than driving in the rain on your own for the first time. Even something as simple as driving around the back streets of your neighborhood can give you a feel for what it's like to driving in varied environments.

While learning from a friend or family member can be a great help, it's important that this is not the sole means for your child to learn how to drive. A qualified driving instructor is the best bet in order to instill the right driving habits in your son or daughter.
